London-based casualwear brand Folk was founded in 2001. Folk’s design ethos focuses on a combination of quality fabrics, fearless use of colour and an obsession with detail. While their offline presence is focused in Bloomsbury and Soho they attract and ship to a global audience via their website.

Folk approached Like in spring 2014 to help them overhaul their site, having been introduced via a mutual connection. Although very happy with their digital branding, Folk knew they needed to move with the times in terms of the platform that underpinned their online store. They were stuck on a very old version of Magento which was starting to create user experience issues. In addition, their existing website framework wasn’t responsive which was only exacerbating their concerns around their ability to compete and reach new audiences online.
Like worked with the team at Folk to understand the gap between the limitations of their existing platform and their e-commerce strategy. It became clear that in addition to a new responsive template for the website they also needed to move Folk onto a newer version of Magento to fully overcome their user experience issues.
Like attempted to engage Folk’s hosting company to put together a plan to complete the data migration required for the essential Magento upgrade. Finding them to be unresponsive Like raised their concerns to Folk that they risked becoming potential stumbling block in the project and future success of the site.
