Why we run Wirehive 100
The Wirehive 100 awards have steadily gained a reputation as the best digital agency awards and party in the South East, but what does that have to do with a hosting company in Farnborough?
A crazy idea…
At Wirehive we love all things digital. We were founded to provide digital agencies and their brand clients an alternative to faceless one-size-fits-all hosting. Day to day we get our kicks finding elegant solutions to the myriad of technical conundrums that can make or break (quite literally) a website. However at heart, we’re all in it for that moment when beautiful design meets digital innovation in perfect harmony. The truth is, more than anything else we’re massive fans of your digital creations.
So, when we saw that so many of our agency clients outside of London were producing amazing work that simply wasn’t getting the recognition it deserved we decided to do something about it. In 2011 the spark of an idea was formed. There weren’t any awards that specifically celebrated the wealth of digital talent in the South outside of the capital that we could support so why not run our own? It was certainly bold, definitely crazy, an undertaking of ridiculous proportions, but luckily for us you all agreed. And thus the Wirehive 100 Awards and League Table were born.
Making it matter
While we had attended plenty of awards ourselves and had youthful enthusiasm on our side we weren’t so arrogant as to believe we knew it all. We got some really valuable pointers from industry experts and some of our existing agency clients as to what did – and more importantly what didn’t – make a great awards.
We were always determined that the awards would be meaningful, not just to the agencies who won them but to all the amazing brands on our doorstep in the South East. This is why we built the awards around a free league table, the eponymous Wirehive 100. More than just a means of seeing how you stack up against the competition, it’s a great starting point for companies looking for a recognised local agency to work with. To balance this focus on revenue performance we ensured there were some strong category awards for individual pieces of work and campaigns that would be judged on their creative, technical and ultimately performance merits.
Most importantly we don’t run the awards for profit. We give our time and rely on the support of some amazing and generous sponsors to keep the entry and ticket prices affordable while still delivering an event to rival the national awards.
Raising the bar
After three amazing years of running the awards and doubling them in size and scale we’re pulling out all the stops for year four to become the awards of choice for digital agencies in the South. For the first time we’re not looking to increase the number of attendees as we want to retain the intimate atmosphere which has become our trade mark however, we are stepping things up a gear in terms of production. Prepare yourself for a spectacular evening!
Our quest for continuous improvement doesn’t just stop at the event itself. Every year we review and update the categories to ensure we’re reflecting the latest digital trends and providing the best opportunity to showcase the rich variety of work that comes out of this area. We also seek out the best judges to get the right mix of industry experts, big brand marketers and successful agency representatives. All of the judging is overseen by this independent panel of distinguished digital professionals ensuring a Wirehive 100 Award is a recognised and credible benchmark of digital excellence.
The past three years have been an incredible journey for us at Wirehive running these awards. We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and genuine affection for Wirehive 100 from digital agencies in the South and the wider industry. At our inaugural Winners Dinner last year every single person I spoke to was proud to be there and have taken home an award. We don’t kid ourselves that we’re the most coveted marketing awards out there but while we’re able to shine a light on the digital agency world outside London and throw the best party in town, we’re going to keep running Wirehive 100.
So if you’re an awesome digital agency in the South and this sounds like your kind of awards you have until 5th June to submit your entries for the Wirehive 100 2015 Awards and League Table.
