The Wirehive 100 Awards 2018
Six years ago in 2012 the small but perfectly formed team at Wirehive had a crazy idea.
They’d noticed that there were a number of awards ceremonies, some of which were very well regarded. But there was a problem.
They were all utterly dominated by the same few big and undeniably brilliant agencies in London. The vast array of smaller agencies across the South of England weren’t getting a look in. They were doing great work, and creating some incredible digital projects, but due, in a big part to scale they simply weren’t getting the recognition they deserved.
The Wirehive 100 Awards were born.
Wirehive 100 Categories
The categories have changed a little over the years, but the heart of the awards has always been the Wirehive 100 League table. More than just a means of seeing how you stack up against the competition, it’s used as a tool by companies in the South to find recognised local agencies to work with. As ever it is completely free to enter.
This year we’ve introduced a number of new awards in order to more accurately reflect the industry as it evolves. The advent of GDPR has meant that we have all had to look at the way we collect and process data, and as you would expect in the world of creative digital agencies there have been some truly innovative and ground-breaking implementations. Because of this, for the first time ever we have included an award for “Data Analytics and Insight”.
More and more companies are maturing to the point where they are more aware of the world around them, and the potentially negative impact they may have. Because of this they are actively working to mitigate that damage, and much more than that, to improve the world they exist in. Whether that is putting in place programs to counter the environmental impact they have on the planet, or working with underprivileged young people in their local community. The new award “Agency for Good” is perfect for them.
Over the intervening years a number of things have changed. Not only has Wirehive got bigger and better at what we do, but the awards have grown too. More importantly though the recognition people get from winning one of our awards has grown beyond our wildest expectations.
Who should enter?
All of the judging is overseen by our independent panel of distinguished digital professionals that changes every year in order to ensure a Wirehive 100 Award is a recognised and credible benchmark of digital excellence. We don’t make any profit from the awards, and our judges give their time for free and so there really is no way a Wirehive 100 award can be anything other than a brilliant validation of the quality of the work you are doing.
Last year, in 2017, we took the decision to increase the eligible area for entrants. We still exclude London, and have no plans to change that, but now we allow entries from across the entire South of the UK including: Berkshire, Bristol, Buckinghamshire, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, East Sussex, Essex, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, Oxfordshire, Somerset, Surrey, West Sussex and Wiltshire. It was an inspired decision with some of the most impressive entries coming from agencies across the South West who had previously been excluded by our criteria.
It’s worth mentioning that you are allowed to have a London office, but your registered “head office” must be outside the capital in order to enter.
The Wirehive 100 Awards Ceremony
But enough about the awards, lets talk a little about the ceremony itself.
Last year we hosted the awards at the O2 Guildhall in Southampton with the wonderful Alun Cochrane acting as our compere. It was such a glorious success that we are heading there again for this years awards. We’ve got a new compere this year, I’m not going to give too much away at this point as I don’t want to spoil the anticipation, but they are fantastic and a mainstay in the world of comedy.
I can’t tell you much about the theme at this point, but the party is going underground and should be all the better for it.
So if you’re awesome at all things digital, submit your entries for the Wirehive 100 2018 Awards and League Table by 22nd June for your chance to shine.
